Before I ever touched a tax return, I spent eight years as a union millwright, work that doesn't leave much room for financial guesswork. About seven years ago, I found myself buried in debt. Digging out of it changed everything: I built my own system for managing money, taught myself how markets actually work, and grew that into a successful stock portfolio from scratch. That process turned into an obsession. I couldn't stop learning how the financial system works, and especially how the tax code is built.
I've always been a numbers guy. Once I realized how much of what I'd taught myself could genuinely help people, especially people like me working the trades, chasing jobs across state lines. Getting into tax preparation felt less like a career change and more like the next natural step. I'm currently training under a 30-year experienced tax professional and working toward my Enrolled Agent credential, so every return gets handled with real rigor behind it, not just good intentions.
I started Journeyman Financial Services because I know what it feels like to be lost in your own finances, and I want to make sure my clients never feel that way about their taxes.
